Service phase:Alpha This is an early version, expect rough edges. What we store

Terms of service

Last updated: 24 October 2026.

The short version (TL;DR)

  • SecBird is a free guide that helps you review your own online accounts. It needs no account of its own, and your progress stays in your browser.
  • We give guidance, not guarantees. You carry out every step yourself, on the service's own site; we never see what you do there.
  • Don't abuse the service (no breaking in, no scraping or resale of our catalog beyond its open licence).
  • If we ever change these terms meaningfully, you'll get a plain-language summary before it takes effect.

The service

SecBird provides a step-by-step guide to the settings of your own online accounts: keep or close, password, two-step sign-in, the apps and sites that can use the account, and privacy settings. The guide is free and works without an account. Where we add optional features that need an account, we will say so there, and these terms will be updated first.

Your account

The guide needs none. If you create an optional account later, keep your credentials safe and your email current; you're responsible for activity under it. You must be legally able to enter this agreement; minors need a parent or guardian's consent.

Acceptable use

Don't: monitor identities you don't control, probe or disrupt the service, scrape or resell our data feeds, or use the service to harm others. We may suspend accounts that do, and we'll explain why.

Your data

The guide stores your progress in your browser only; we never receive it. If you use an optional account, you own your data and grant us only the license needed to operate the service (store, process, and display it back to you). Export and deletion are self-service — see the privacy policy.

Payment

The guide is free. If we ever offer something paid, it will be clearly marked, will renew only with your consent, and the guide will stay free.

No guarantees

We work hard to be accurate, but services change their settings pages without telling us: we provide information and guidance, not a warranty against breaches or a promise that every instruction matches every screen. The service is provided "as is"; to the extent the law allows, our liability is capped at what you paid us in the last 12 months (for the free guide: nothing). Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot legally be limited.

SecBird is in closed alpha: an early version that one person builds in the open. Parts of it may be incomplete, out of date or wrong, and may change or disappear without notice. Before the guide starts, we ask you to acknowledge this once; by using the guide, you confirm that you have.

Ending things

You can leave anytime: for the guide, clear your browser's progress from the report page; for an optional account, export, delete, done. We can terminate accounts for breach of these terms, with notice and a chance to export unless the breach makes that irresponsible.

Changes

Meaningful changes to these terms are announced in advance, in plain language, with a side-by-side comparison. Continued use after the effective date is acceptance.
